William E. Turner - President

  • Mr. Turner founded APS Technology in 1993. Prior to founding APS, Mr. Turner was Director of Engineering for a pioneering Measurement-While-Drilling company, Teleco Oilfield Services, coordinating worldwide engineering teams on numerous drilling and measurement products.

    Prior to Teleco, Mr. Turner gained considerable experience in the design of gas turbines and other turbomachinery as an Engineer with Westinghouse and Ingersoll Rand.

    Mr. Turner holds numerous patents in a variety of areas, including mud pulse telemetry, passive and active vibration control, well steering, thermoelectric cooling, hydraulic pump and motor design, harsh environment hydraulic and electrical interconnects, and metal fabrication.

    Mr. Turner holds a BSME from Lafayette College, an MSME from Villanova University and an MBA from the University of New Haven.

Denis Biglin - Senior Vice President

  • Mr. Denis Biglin co-founded APS in 1993, and has over 30 years of experience in MWD, LWD and downhole tool design. Mr. Biglin holds numerous patents and was the principal inventor of APS’s patented rotary pulser. Mr. Biglin’s experience includes design, development, marketing and commercialization of many MWD, LWD and drilling products, including pulsers, turbine alternators, wave propagation resistivity tools (WPR™), LithoDensity and Neutron Porosity tools (iPCD™), Drilling Motors and Rotary Steerable Systems. Mr. Biglin started his career in the oilfield as a MWD/LWD field engineer for Teleco Oilfield Services and later joined Teleco’s RD&E department. Mr. Biglin gained international experience managing the engineering and production departments for Baker Hughes’s Asia-Pacific regional repair center in Singapore. Mr. Biglin has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, and an MBA from the University of New Haven.

  • Dirk Bosman joined APS in September, 2008 and is based in Dubai where he is responsible for the Asia Pacific / Middle East / North Africa Region and the APS Dubai support centre. Mr. Bosman started his career in the oilfield services sector in 1988 with Teleco and has since worked for both Baker Hughes and DuPont. His experience includes the testing and product launching of LWD and rotary steerable systems, operations, and product line management. He is a graduate of Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand and holds a BSc in Chemistry. Mr. Bosman has worked in various international locations and has been based in the Middle East and Asia Pacific since 1993.

  • Berzis Irani joined the APS team in August 2014, and has over 20 years of international oil field experience covering the Far East, Middle East and US. Mr. Irani joined Eastman Teleco as an LWD Engineer in 1992, introducing Triple Combo LWD tools offshore from Borneo. Later with Baker Hughes he held various roles in MWD/LWD Operations Management, Strategic Marketing, Business Development and New Technology deployment. He holds an MSc in Petroleum Technology from the University of Pune, India and an MBA in Finance from The International University, MO, US.

Ron Dirksen - Vice President, Western Region

  • Ron Dirksen has more than 35 years of global experience in the oilfield services sector encompassing field engineering, product line and operations management, strategic planning, R&D, human resources and corporate development for the oil and gas industry. Mr. Dirksen's prior experience includes development, testing and commercialization of multiple drilling, Measurement While Drilling (MWD) / Logging While Drilling (LWD) and mud logging systems, including rotary steerable tools, drilling optimization technology, LWD gamma ray, wave propagation resistivity, neutron porosity, density, sonic, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), gas systems, elemental analysis, formation pressure and sampling. He has used his drilling engineering expertise in the development of drilling and well construction software and processes and is author or co-author on multiple U.S. and international patents and patent applications. Mr. Dirksen attended the Technical University in Delft (the Netherlands).

  • John Stafsholt started in the oilfield in 1979 as a roustabout for Union Oil Company of California. In 1983, John joined Teleco Oilfield Services after graduating from Colorado School of Mines with a BS in Petroleum Engineering. John's oilfield experience includes field testing, product development and commercialization of many MWD/LWD services, including wave propagation resistivity, neutron porosity and gamma density tools for Teleco and Baker Hughes INTEQ. With Drilex, John also worked on development and testing of first generation steerable drilling motors.

    John received his MBA in 1994 and has decades of direct sales and sales management experience. He has held various postings around the world, most notably running an Asia Pacific sales and marketing organization in Singapore. At APS, John is heading up our Calgary office, where he is responsible for Canadian and Western USA sales.

Bin Xu - General Manager, China Region

  • Mr. Xu joined APS in 2009 to help establish Guanghan APS Technology, Ltd. and is responsible for sales and overall management of APS's China region.

    Mr. Xu started his career in the oilfield services sector over 20 years ago with Petrotech Services Ltd. CNOOC and has worked with Schlumberger Canada, Weatherford McAllister Products, Chengdu Bright Bit Ltd., WuXi Bright Wanbang, and Infomax Service Corp. His experience includes directional drilling, and completion engineering and operations, sales management and marketing management.

    Mr. Xu is a graduate of China's Southwest Petroleum Institute and holds both a BS and MS in Petroleum Engineering.

Craig Brown - Vice President, Sales – Western Region

  • Mr. Brown has over 30 years of experience in a variety of engineering, applications engineering, sales, operations and product line management positions in the downhole drilling tool business with Reed Tool Company, Andergauge Drilling Systems and National Oilwell Varco. Additionally, Mr. Brown was active in the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Association of Drilling Engineers, where he served on the technical program committee and held leadership positions for many years. He joined APS Technology's Houston office in 2006. Mr. Brown is principally responsible for the management of Western Region Sales and certain key national accounts.

  • Prior to joining APS, Ms. Pangakis gained Human Resources experience working at Connecticut-based divisions of Danaher Corporation and Johnson & Johnson. She has earned an MBA from the University of Hartford as well as HR Management Certifications from the Human Resource Certification Institute and St. Joseph College. Ms. Pangakis is responsible for all aspects of HR for APS, including recruiting, safety, benefits, training, health and wellness and employee relations.

  • John Hickey has over 25 years of experience in MWD and LWD field operations, tool and system design, and consulting engineering with APS Technology, Baker Hughes INTEQ, Teleco Oilfield Services and several environmental engineering consulting firms. He holds a BS in Petroleum Engineering from Penn State and an MS in Environmental Management. Mr. Hickey's experience includes operations, development and petrophysical support of several generations of propagation resistivity tools and other MWD and LWD devices and systems. At APS since 2006, he is responsible for the development and commercialization of the company's MWD and LWD product line and support of the customers using these products.

Carl A. Perry, P.E. - Vice President of Engineering

  • Mr. Perry joined APS in 2001, and guides the daily efforts of the engineering and quality staffs. He has over 30 years of experience engineering equipment and complex systems for hazardous and harsh environments. During his 12 years at Teleco Oilfield Services, Mr. Perry rose to Director of Downhole Mechanical Systems. In this position, he managed a group of specialized engineers in the design of MWD equipment and components, including high-pressure connectors, ruggedized electronic packaging, gamma detectors, resistivity and nuclear logging tools. He also has considerable experience in the design of pumps, seals and components for extreme environments. Mr. Perry holds 14 patents and continues to develop innovative solutions to technical problems.

  • Ron has over 30 years of oilfield services experience primarily focused on development and commercialization of LWD, formation evaluation services and applications. Prior to joining APS Ron was VP of Operations for Navigate Energy Services and, previously, Global Petrophysics Manager for Halliburton - Sperry Drilling Services.

    Ron has held Field Engineer, Field Test and Project Petrophysicist positions at Teleco Oilfield Services (later Baker Hughes INTEQ). At Halliburton, Ron was Product Champion for LWD Acoustics and later became Asia Pacific Regional Petrophysics Manager.

    Ron has a BS degree in Geology from Northern Illinois University, holds two LWD-realted US patents and has authored or co-authored numerous LWD-related papers and publications. Ron is a member of SPE, SPWLA and SEG.

Mac Wisler - Chief Scientist

  • Dr. Wisler came to the oilfield in 1979 from Naval Research Laboratories in Washington, DC where he designed passive microwave radiometric satellite systems. He was instrumental in the development of propagation resistivity tools for NL Industries (now Halliburton/Sperry Sun), Teleco Oilfield Services, Baker Hughes INTEQ and Weatherford. He pioneered the development of 2 MHz, 400 kHz and 100 kHz resistivity measurements; integrated antenna / collar resistivity designs and the first digital resistivity tool. Dr. Wisler has also developed many other tools and systems for oilfield applications. He holds 38 US patents in the areas of propagation resistivity; nuclear magnetic resonance; spontaneous potential; electrical imaging; magnetic ranging; EM, mud pulse and short hop telemetry and geosteering. At APS he is responsible for developing new tools and systems and improving existing ones. Dr. Wisler holds BS, MEE and Ph.D. Electrical Engineering Degrees from North Carolina State University and is a member of SPE, SPWLA and IEEE.

Mark Wassell - Analytical Engineering Manager

  • Mr. Wassell is recognized as a leading expert in drilling dynamics with over 20 years of oilfield experience. He has developed downhole tools for measuring drilling dynamics and novel downhole tools that mitigate the effects of shock and vibration. Mark is also responsible for developing the WellDesigner suite of drilling software used within the industry for optimizing drilling performance. He is involved in APS's Rotary Steerable Motor development and provides consulting services for rotary steerable tools. Mark has been granted numerous patents and has published several technical papers. Prior to joining APS he worked for Ingersol-Rand, Teleco and Baker Hughes INTEQ.

  • Chris Abbamonte joined APS Technology in 2006. Prior to joining APS he spent six years as a Senior Commercial Banker at First International Bank, specializing in financing manufacturers. His expertise includes structuring financing transactions aimed at maximizing cash flow in rapidly expanding companies. He has a Master's of Business Administration from the University of Connecticut and a Master's of Science in Accounting & Taxation from The University of Hartford. His responsibilities at APS include management and oversight of all finance, accounting, procurement, production and distribution functions.

  • Bill has over 35 years of experience in quality, reliability and operations support in such varied industries as oilfield services, commercial products and military electronics. Bill spent 10 years with Teleco Oilfield Services, spearheading their quality and reliability efforts as Director of Quality and Reliability. He has implemented ISO 9001 quality systems in numerous organizations and has championed quality programs such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and Total Quality. Bill has a BSEE from the City College of New York, an MBA in Strategic Planning from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
