Description
The VIS consists of two loosely-threaded cylindrical members with rubber molded into the threaded cavity. The spiral thread form significantly increases the rubber-to-metal bond area and constrains the rubber in all directions. The elastomer is only slightly compressible in the longitudinal direction and somewhat more compressible in response to torque. The thread form design makes the sub fail-safe when drilling torque is applied. Four pins are installed prior to molding to make the VIS fail-safe in reverse rotation. |
APS
Technology's Vibration Isolation Sub (VIS) drillstring dampers† reduce transmission of damaging shock pulses from the drill bit to sensitive BHA components. The sub is capable of carrying very large axial and torsional loads while effectively reducing axial, torsional and lateral shocks. Operators can expect improved drilling rates and a reduction in drill string failures.
The VIS is available in two hole sizes. Axial and torsional stiffness can be optimized to specific requirements. High-temperature elastomers are also available.
Design
Process
APS's Vibration Isolation Sub was developed from oilfieldproven technologies. Analytical engineering and extensive testing demonstrated that the sub provides significant vibration isolation capabilities.
