The APS G5 high data rate pulser completed a successfully run at the Samotlorskoe field in Western Siberia, Russia with Bashneftegeofizika DD/MWD services company. The G5 pulser is APS’s 5th generation top mount rotary pulser and is designed to transmit telemetry signals at high data rates with much lower power consumption than the previous pulser generations. The 4.75” LWD BHA used on this job consisted of APS’ Directional sensor, Gamma module, and WPR resistivity tools plus batteries and the G5 pulser. Key job parameters included:
- Drilling interval 2383 – 3143 m (7818 - 10312 ft)
- Circulation hours - 75 h; BRT - 140 h
- Pulse width - 0.25 sec (2.7 bps)
- The decoding quality was very good (about 95%) during all drilling intervals
- The real-time log had a high data density, with an average of 10 data points/meter for each logging parameter
