Wallingford, CT, USA – 8 August, 2016 – APS Technology, Inc. was recently awarded a U.S. Department of Energy Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Project grant to fund research for a “Vertical Steering Borehole Drilling Tool Incorporating Formation Water Salinity and Fracture Zone Detection Sensing.”
This project involves a well drilling machine with onboard geological formation evaluation sensors, which represents an extension of APS’s development work both in Rotary Steerable Systems (RSS), and formation evaluation sensor technology. The tool will be used in drilling and logging of deep boreholes for permanent, safe storage of spent nuclear fuels.
This is APS’s fourth SBIR award.
